Centrally located in the downtown district and situated between Newark Penn Station and The Prudential Center Arena, the site of Mulberry Commons Park, a former parking lot, occupies a critical space and defines a significant threshold within the urban fabric of the city of Newark. The park is envisioned as the first phase of a long term project which will create a much needed green pedestrian connection between the Prudential Center and the Newark riverfront. A critical “Sky Bridge” will eventually be incorporated over the tracks of the NE rail corridor, which has severed downtown Newark from other parts of the city, to provide direct pedestrian linkages to and from The Prudential Center, Newark Penn Station, and the Ironbound, one of the most culturally diverse and historical neighborhoods in the city.
