Kingston Point Climate Adaptive Design
Kingston, New York
Building on the 2017 Cornell Climate Adaptive Design Studio, the Kingston Point CAD project evaluated sea level rise scenarios and their impacts on the City and the Hudson River estuary. Supermass Studio was commissioned to develop a flood mitigation and resiliency strategy that balances ecological health, recreation, and community needs. Through stakeholder engagement, Kingston Point Beach was identified as the most feasible demonstration site. The project explores creating living shorelines, restoring and managing habitats, integrating educational programs, and designing the beach as an adaptive feature for rising seas. It also proposes tidal wetland restoration and an interpretive trail connecting key park areas.
