University at Albany ETEC

SUNY at Albany, Albany, NY

The Emerging Technology & Entrepreneurship Complex at UAlbany is a SUNY flagship complex that brings together nationally leading academic and research programs and industry partners focusing on emergency and disaster preparedness, homeland security and cybersecurity, as well as weather detection and climate. The site design utilizes the general topographic flow of the existing site to position the building and organize the circulation, create aesthetic and functional landforms for planting and stormwater management, and screen the proposed parking lot from the adjacent drive.

Starting from the existing hill, the western portion of the site is shaped with landforms and basins that flow down and wrap around the western facade of the building. The topographic concept extends to the pedestrian connector which ties the main campus with ETEC and provides a choreographed walking experience with directed views and subtle elevation changes while screening the adjacent parking lot with a sculpted berm. Other major landscape features include a building entry garden and plaza sequence, as well as a rear garden area.
