Bergen Arches Transit & Greenway
Jersey City, New Jersey
Bergen Arches is a 60’ wide, 1.75 mile long historic and abandoned depressed rail corridor that was completely taken over by nature since its abandonment 60 years ago. Supermass Studio was commissioned to conduct the feasibility study to convert this historic rail corridor into a new model of greenway public space that can coexist with the reintroduced sustainable public transit. The new greenway proposes to strike a balance between the preservation of the existing vegetation, introduction of new green space as public amenities, while creating a pedestrian compatible new mobility model for future transit.
