The Circle:A Meditation on Nature

 Gangwon International Biennale, South Korea

The public art, commissioned as a centerpiece artwork for the Gangwon International Biennale, entitled, “The Dictionary of Evil”, accompanied the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea.

The sculpture functions as a counterbalance to adversity. It creates a quiet presence, a place for reflection and elevation of the spirit. The bold green structure is elevated, suspended in tension, akin to nature and its fragility. It provides a humane tactile experience with nature, engaging several senses including the smell of nature, as well as visual familiarity. The outer form encircles the inner core, emanating color, texture, and light, drawing people within. The Circle symbolizes a return to unity from multiplicity. It corresponds to the ultimate state of oneness.

The artwork was a collaboration with the environmental artist Patricia Leighton. (text by the artist)
